Saturday, September 10th - Darling St Oval - 9:30am Kick Off
Northwestern Giants vs Northern Sydney Rebels
With last weekend getting rained out across the entire Gridiron NSW league, this week mounted a lot of hype and energy as all of the teams looked forward to officially kicking off their season openers.
This game started off with two fumbles and an interception in the first few plays of the game seeing the ball change hands rapidly as the slew of rookies on both sides of the field got their wits about them. The battle continued on through most of the first half with the first score finally coming just minutes before half time, as the Giant's new starting QB connected with WR #84 Jeremy Ivins for a 30 yard touchdown. They backed this up with a successful conversion putting the score to 8-0 at the half.
The second half opened up with a bit more action as shortly into the half QB Toan Truong connected again but this time with RB #17 Cameron Streeter for a 28 yard touchdown pass. Again the Giants converted successfully for 2 points bringing the score up to 16-0. The remainder of the game was a hard fought defensive battle and neither team scored resulting in a final score of 16-0 in favour of the Northwestern Giants.
Week 3 sees the Giants with their first bye week. They'll be back in week 4 to face off against the currently 0-1 Sydney Uni Cubs.
Final Score: Giants 16 - Rebels 7
